An All-Weather MUGA for a Growing Primary

A single fenced court, line-marked for several sports, turned an underused tarmac area into the school's busiest space, from morning clubs to after-school hire.

What we set out to do

The school had a tired, single-use tarmac area that flooded in winter and offered little beyond a painted netball key. Staff wanted one space that could host PE, clubs and community hire across the year.

The brief

The school had a tired, single-use tarmac area that flooded in winter and offered little beyond a painted netball key. Staff wanted one space that could host PE, clubs and community hire across the year.

Our approach

We designed a fenced multi-use games area sized to the plot, laid a porous all-weather surface with correct falls for drainage, and line-marked it for football, netball and basketball. Rebound fencing keeps balls in play and pupils safe, with gated access for out-of-hours use.

The result

The MUGA is now in use from breakfast club through to evening hire, rain or shine. PE lessons run to timetable in winter, and the space supports the school's wider activity and community goals.
